"Rules for effective and safe pre-construction termite management practices for the advance structures" is a book authored by Dr. Sarang Arun Savalekar, President of Pest Management Association, Pune. It is a practical reference for persons who have little knowledge of identification, biology or control measures of termites in constructions. It is high time to think it is about the it as with the increased building activity in various spheres, termite control in existing as well new structures is of paramount importance.

Termites are important member of the soil ecosystem and are found throughout the world. They form large nests or colonies and contribute in improving soil pH, organic carbon content, water content by cycling dead organics. There are more than 2,500 different types of termites all over the world. At some places the loss caused due to termites is estimated to be as high as 10% of the capital outlay of the building structure. anti termites treatments are used to combat the problem so that damages are either reduced or checked completely.

Dr. Sarang Savalekar belong to the category 2. From a commercial graduate he went on to complete his L.L.M. and also completed his Ph.D. in a Termite related topic. With such a unique combination of studies he has not only achieved a typically different position in the industry, but it also reflects in his writing. He has also made use of his personal experience earned in the industry, and so also shared it with the readers. The last known termitologist in india is Dr. N.S. Rathore, who has retired as director of ZSI, Jodhpur.

Termites are one of the destructive insect pest, cause severe damage to wooden structures in buildings. In order to prevent damage Central Insecticide Board has published pre and post -termite control guidelines. However, with the recent advancement in buildings construction techniques, pest control professionals face problems in treatments.
